Jan Millikan – Children as protagonists of their own learning

Children as protagonists of their own learning: implications for learning and teaching in Australian contexts

Presented by Jan Millikan on Saturday 27th August 2016 at Westbourne Grammar, Winjeel Junior School, VIC

About the workshop:

The term Child as Protagonist is a choice that the educators in Reggio Emilia have made to describe their particular view of the competencies and capabilities that children possess, and are able to bring to their own learning. This is coupled with a particular belief related to how children construct and co-construct their own learning. This seminar, through lecture and dialogue, will explore the possibilities that these choices invite for Australian contexts, in particular the implications for the role of educators. It will also explore the importance of two key principles of the Reggio Emilia educational project as strategies in this process: the pedagogy of listening and the Hundred Languages of both children and adults.
