At Emmaus Christian School, the journey toward becoming Reggio-inspired has been thoughtful and intentional. For many educators, this approach is new, so the ELC has embraced a slow, reflective path—one that inspires rather than overwhelms. This began last year with The Art of Welcome, a focus on creating calm, uncluttered, and inviting environments that honour all who enter.
This year, the focus has deepened to centre on children’s voices, recognising the child as a capable protagonist in their own learning and placing their ideas, questions, and expressions at the heart of the curriculum.
Looking forward, Emmaus Christian School will continue this pedagogical journey through the development of its ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming’ program. This begins in the 3-year-old preschool program, where children develop a strong sense of Belonging within the school community. It continues with Being, as children engage with their local environment and Bush School. Finally, Becoming marks the transition into Kindergarten, supported by the foundations of connection, curiosity, and confidence.
