Supporting our children’s development as active citizens
From the team at Majura Park Childcare:
Our goal is to present our recent learning and growth in how we have adapted elements of the Reggio Emilia Approach® into our curriculum and demonstrate how we use everyday practices to support our children’s development as active citizens – how we allow children to advocate for their own learning, choosing to participate in activities relevant to their own individual creativity and expression as co-contributors/protagonists in their own community – being supported through the joy of learning.
Our teachers will present two concepts guiding our outdoor excursions – contrasting the intentional teaching guided program excursions – in comparison to the ‘walk of thoughts’ also used in our environment.
• Our Pre-school teacher will present how she develops her curriculum, with intentional teaching through local exploration in the community.
• Our Junior Pre-school teacher will explain how we use our ‘walk of thoughts’ as an opportunity to use the environment as a third teacher, immersing the children in their own community with endless possibilities to explore.
