Program Description

The tasreggio Network meeting will be held on the land and sea country of the palawa people, the traditional custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania).

Join us for a double-encounter Network meeting on the North-West Coast of Tasmania for an opportunity to explore the East Devonport Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC), followed by an on-country experience at a nearby beach. Participants are welcome to join us for all, or part of this experience.

We start our day together at the East Devonport CFLC, giving participants an opportunity to explore one of Tasmania’s 18 CFLCs and hear a Story of Practice, from educators at the Ravenswood CFLC, to share children’s and families encounters with mark making following participation in the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material Exhibition in Adelaide alongside the recent REAIE Conference. We look forward to engaging in dialogue around the pedagogy of the Hundred Languages in relationship with mark-making.

Following, a half-hour lunch break (a light lunch of sandwiches and fruit will be provided or participants are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase at nearby shops), the group will reconvene at the CFLC at 12:30pm to embark on a short walk (5-10 minutes) to a local beach for an inspiring on-country experience, where Lou Kirkwood (New Horizons Preschool, Hobart) will guide participants through an exploration of the environment from the perspective of Teachers As Researchers. Lou will share thinking and reflections from a previous project titled ‘A Tapestry of Place’ – explorations of children’s encounters with place. Here, participants will connect and experience the beach site with a view to experiencing the Hundred Languages.

If weather prevents the beach experience, our encounter will continue at the CFLC with a hands-on experience using natural resources and a mark-making lens.

Please ensure you wear suitable, comfortable clothing and footwear for the beach encounter.
