Billanook College, nestled amongst manna gums with Yaluk (Brushy Creek) flowing through the heart of the school, sits on the beautiful land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation in the outer east of Melbourne, Naarm.
The Melbourne Network would like to invite you to join the team at Billanook Early Learning Centre as they share their experience of Bush Kinder and how they align this unique experience and context to the principles of Reggio Emilia.
A message from the Billanook team:
Over the past 18 months we have embarked on a journey researching how relationships strengthen children’s ecological identity. Our unique landscape lends itself to rich encounters with the natural world. We have been privileged to support children nurture their connection to Country and in turn, discover how deep relationships to Country such as with magpie, Yaluk, sky Country, log, and fungi have nudged us as Educators to reflect not only our own ecological identity and that of our children, but how this underpins our specific cultural context and our role as Educators as researchers.
Please come wearing comfortable walking shoes (or even gumboots if a splash through the creek entices you!) as we will be venturing out around the College grounds.
