Program Description

In 1960, Perth was dubbed the ‘City of Light’ when its residents turned on their lights to welcome astronaut John Glenn as he passed over the city as he orbited Earth.  With its long summer days, Perth is also known for its natural light. But what do we know of light, this phenomenon crucial for our very existence? How might we get to know light better? What might paying attention to light set in motion?

Join us as we embark on a collective project to explore the possibilities of light in our pedagogical contexts in Perth. We will come together in person three times:

  • In the first session, Tuesday 29 June 6.30pm, teachers and researchers who created the ‘Digital Investigations Atelier’ for the 2019 REAIE conference will share their experience of creating an atelier designed to explore possibilities of digital light. They will offer the opportunity to experiment with some of the materials and technology they used and will invite you to return to your own pedagogical settings to further explore light as an active participant in your classrooms and centres. Please click here for some pre-reading.

  • In the second session, Tuesday 10 August 6.30pm, we will come back together to discuss your ‘encounters with light’ documentation and research. Please click here to register for the second session.

  • In the third session, Tuesday 7 September 6.30pm, Dr Jane Merewether and Dr Stefania Giamminuti will lead a discussion about the possibilities of ateliers as places of pedagogical transformation. Please click here to register for the third session.

If you have time a small plate of finger food to share would be welcome.

We hope you can join us in this exciting project!
