PENOLA CASA – WAVELL HEIGHTS – 7 Sugarloaf Street, Wavell Heights
Penola Casa, rich with history and design that allowed for a place of difference for families. The building which was previously occupied as a Nursing Home for 40 years captures the homely, yet hidden feel as you walk through the rooms and note the intentional design of the building, old relics from time gone by, where old meets new. Children are encouraged to be present in all spaces with in the building and this can be seen on your visit.
Penola has four age groups from 6 weeks to kindergarten. Each rooms design allows for children to feel the sense of hidden worlds, and differing heights and spaces allows for them to learn in their own space. Children are given choice and freedom to play both indoors and outdoors, where nature meets suburbia.
The Services philosophy embraces the Reggio Approach, and collaborative project work and learning are the basis for the educational program. Each year a focus “lens” is given for the team to guide their research and from here project/s develop. 2021 saw the lens of “Reflection”, paired with the interests and continuity of projects from the previous year’s group of children’s learning, 2021 saw a variety of exploration and investigation under the lens of “Reflection” for all children and educators.
The projects that will be presented on the Twilight Evening will incorporate the growth of rituals, community connections, child interests, embedded indigenous culture and the delivery of nature-based programs and learning throughout the age groups.
