REAIE Statement – Children’s Week (Oct 18-26)

Children’s rights are not optional – they are essential. Article 42 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child reminds us that everyone should know about these rights.

During National Children’s Week (October 18 – 26, 2025), REAIE affirms the rights and potential of all children. Guided by the principles of the Reggio Emilia Educational Project, we recognise and celebrate children as capable, curious, and active participants in their learning and communities. We honour their right to express themselves, to be heard, and to engage in meaningful experiences through the 100 Languages – whether through art, movement, storytelling, inquiry, and more – that nurture their identity, creativity, and sense of belonging.

In the spirit of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we value children as protagonists in their own learning journeys—rich in wonder, imagination, and the desire to connect with the world around them. We acknowledge their right to environments that are inclusive, respectful, and responsive, where their ideas are valued and their voices guide the learning process.

This week, and every week, we reaffirm our advocacy for children’s rights – honouring their contributions, and co-constructing spaces where all children can flourish as active citizens, thinkers, and collaborators. Together, as educators, leaders and communities, we commit to developing environments where every child is respected, empowered, and supported to thrive, ensuring their voices contribute to shaping their present and future.
