Program Description

How do the children see the city? Is it a place in which they are visible or feel they belong? How can a city support and celebrate young children’s identities as competent, curious and creative citizens?

In this presentation, featuring images and voices of the protagonists, David Gilkes will share a project entitled Giraffes in the City, which was co-constructed with children four and five years of age, and explored children’s relationships and connections to the city of Hobart.

David’s presentation will also unpack the aims, journey, challenges and celebrations of a collaborative research project undertaken in 2017 known as the Together Project, which involved members of the REAIE Tasmanian REsearch Network, children and the Hobart City Council.
