Drawing inspiration from the Reggio Children approach, we are reminded of the powerful role education can play in reimagining a more sustainable and relational future.
As shared in REchild magazine’s Connections edition (2015):
“We think it is possible to enrich and develop the concept of sustainability and ecology through the approach and ways of seeing children: these are precious contaminations, reinforcing the idea of living beings as relational beings… weaving the rights of people, plants and animals in a necessary dance.”
Today, we honour the deep ecology of learning – , where every stick, breeze, beetle, and puddle holds significance. Children invite us to remember how to live well with others, both human and more-than-human.
This is not a peripheral idea. It is an urgent priority.
At a time when the planet calls for a different kind of attentiveness, we are offered a vital opportunity to cultivate pedagogies that nurture ecological awareness, ethical encounters, and shared responsibility.
Let us reimagine curriculum as a living practice – one that makes holds space for action, wonder, reciprocity, and repair.
What might become possible when sustainability is not something we add in, but something we live through, together?
