Children’s Week 2024

In 2024, The National Theme for Children’s Week in Australia is informed by the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) Article 24: Children have the right to a clean and safe environment.

REAIE supports and acknowledges Children’s Week (19-27 October 2024), as a significant opportunity to advocate for and celebrate the right of all children to enjoy a safe and healthy childhood.

In Australia, the Reggio Emilia Approach® offers a strong and meaningful reference point to inspire and support educators in their important work with children.

In Reggio Emilia, children are viewed as subjects with rights from birth, citizens of the present. The value of participation in Reggio Emilia encourages a culture of both collaboration and shared responsibility. When children experience an education with an emphasis on respectful relationships with people and place, they build understanding about their impact on others, including the environment and the earth’s finite resources.

All children have a right, regardless of where they live, or their economic status, to live safely in an environment that is not negatively impacted by climate change, pollution, or a lack of resources such as water, food or healthcare.

As we recognise Children’s Week, we stand in solidarity with educators undertaking an active role in educating and advocating for all children to ensure that they have access to resources that are a fundamental right. We stand with our colleagues in our commitment to upholding children’s rights and working towards a safe and clean environment for all.
