PRESENTATION ON LEARNING STUDIOS
Natalie Cordukes and Sarah Marksman Paddington Children’s Centre
Natalie Cordukes (Director) & Sarah Marksman (Educational Leader) of Paddington Children’s Centre (Uniting), went to Italy to engage in a Reggio Emilia Study Tour in 2016. This wonderful educational philosophy had always influenced their practice but during their visit, focused learning studios (‘ateliers’) and specialised teachers, sparked much discussion and reflection between them.
In 2018, a need to review their preschool rooms arose, due to: group dynamics, inclusion and changing enrolments trends. This review, called them to revisit their reflections and environment observations from their Reggio Emilia visit. As a result, they have implemented a significant change to their preschool indoor environments to include 3 Learning Studios. This has replaced, two separate preschool rooms and a shared art studio.
The pre-school learning environments now include the following studio focuses: creative arts, STEM & literacy.
This change has reshaped their view of the environment as the third teacher and transformed their practice. Natalie and Sarah look forward to sharing the benefits, challenges and celebrations of this transformational change.
RELATIONSHIPS PROJECT SHARING and DISCUSSION
“Either education is a situation of research, and research produces new pedagogy, or is it an offering given to the child in a message which is pre-fabricated and encoded.”
(Loris Malaguzzi)

How do you see what you are doing as research?
What have people been researching around the concept of relationships?
Has the initial concept of relationships changed during the research?
